Description :
Methyl Tert-Butyl Ether is a colorless, volatile liquid with a distinctive ether-like scent. It's an organic compound that is classified as an ether. It is used primarily as an additive for fuel to improve the performance of gasoline. MTBE is extremely chemically soluble in organic solvents; however, it isn't soluble in water. The chemical stability of MTBE, its higher octane ratings, and its capacity to decrease engine knock are the main reasons for its use as a chemical within the petroleum industry.
It is widely applied as an oxygenate in gasoline for improvements in octane rating and combustion efficiency when used alongside Isophorone and Methyl Heptyl Ketone, as it reduces engine knock, enhances fuel stability, and produces lower emissions — including carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons.
Serves as a solvent and an intermediate for the manufacture of other chemicals, such as tert-butyl alcohol and many ethers used for industrial purposes.
Used in organic synthesis as a reagent or solvent for producing specialty chemicals such as Cyclohexanone and pharmaceuticals.
Employed as a solvent in laboratory-scale reactions, especially where a stable, non-reactive ether is required. It is also used in analytical chemistry and extraction processes.
In some formulations, MTBE has been studied for use in research on oxygenated fuels to reduce pollutants in combustion engines. However, strict handling and environmental regulations apply due to its potential water contamination risks.
Used in specialized industrial cleaning and degreasing applications where high solvency for hydrocarbons and oils is required.
Wear gloves, protective eyewear, and protective clothing when handling MTBE.
Use in well-ventilated areas to avoid inhalation of vapors.
Store in tightly sealed containers, away from heat, sparks, open flames, and strong oxidizers.
Avoid prolonged skin contact; wash thoroughly with water in case of exposure.
MTBE is flammable and poses environmental hazards, particularly in water contamination. Handle with care and dispose of waste according to local regulations.
ChemicalBull manufactures highly-pure MTBE for fuels, chemical synthesis and industrial use.
Available for bulk and small packaging, and can ensure safe handling and delivery across the Vapi area.
