Description :
Isophorone is an α,β-unsaturated cyclic ketone that appears as a colourless to slightly yellow liquid with a distinct peppermint- or camphor-like odour. It is a high-boiling, polar aprotic solvent with excellent solvency power, making it widely used in industrial coatings, adhesives, and inks. Isophorone is also employed as a chemical intermediate in the synthesis of specialty chemicals, herbicides, and pharmaceuticals.
Isophorone is an essential solvent in epoxy, polyurethane, and nitrocellulose coatings. It works effectively alongside complementary chemicals like Methyl Heptyl Ketone and Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether to enhance film formation, improve flow and levelling, and ensure better colour dispersion. Its high boiling point reduces evaporation losses and allows easy application of Ethyl Octanoate-based architectural and industrial coatings.
It is widely used in printing gravure inks and flexographic inks. It improves the wetting of pigments, enhances print quality, and has excellent adhesion to many substrates. A slower rate of evaporation can help avoid printing imperfections such as streaking and smudging.
It acts as a solvent for sealants, adhesives, and formulations with pressure-sensitive properties. It improves the strength of bonding along with stability, consistency, and even use in the packaging, construction, and automotive industries.
Isophorone is a key building component in the process of synthesizing Isophorone Diisocyanate (IPDI) and herbicides. It is also used in the preparation of plasticizers and fungicides. It can also be used for the production of specialty resins, agrochemicals, and pharmaceutical intermediates.
Used as a solvent in textile printing pastes, dye carriers, and leather finishing formulations. It provides deeper penetration of dyes and ensures colour fastness in fabrics and leathers.
