Overview of Triallyl Isocyanurate

Triallyl Isocyanurate (TAIC), the chemical formula is 1025-15-6. It's tri-functional crosslinking ingredient that works along with peroxides used in both plastics and rubber. It increases solvent, heat and flame resistance and also mechanical durability. TAIC can be used for vulcanizing special rubbers, such as EPDM and FKM and to enhance crosslinked polyethylene cables, as well as alter the unsaturated polyesters.

After melting at 20.5°C, it becomes a clear liquid that copolymerizes efficiently and has no odor. It performs better than systems using only peroxide.

Applications of Triallyl Isocyanurate

Rubber & Elastomers

TAIC is used to crosslink EPDM, silicone, fluororubber, and chloroprene. This process creates high-performance tires, seals, and wires with excellent thermal stability and electrical properties. Zinc Stearate can be added during compounding.

Plastics & Composites

Used in XLPE, EVA foams, ion-exchange resins, and FRP for heat resistance (>180°C), chemical durability, and bonding glass/ceramics. Enhance with Cobalt Octoate for curing or 1,4-Butanediol in polyesters.

Other Industrial Uses

TAIC is also used in flame retardants, agrochemicals, as a plasticizer for polystyrene, and in adhesives for multi-layer glass. For more details, see the categories, applications, or visit the homepage.

Safety & Handling Guidelines

  • Store cool, dark, airtight away from oxidizers, heat, flames, air (peroxide risk), and incompatibles.
  • Wear gloves, goggles, protective clothing; avoid ingestion, skin/eye contact, inhalation; harmful if swallowed or in contact.
  • Dispose as hazardous; follow regulations.
