The hides are soaked in water after curing to rehydrate and eliminate the salt. The next process is to remove the hides' hair and flesh. Lime and other chemicals are used in traditional procedures to loosen hair and flesh, which is subsequently scraped off. The hides are then treated with tanning chemicals. Tanning is the critical stage in which the skin's collagen fibers are fixed to prevent deterioration and make the leather flexible.
